THE SIMPLEST BAGEL
These bagels are perfect if you’re looking for a quick & easy bagel fix. They are made with 2 simple ingredients & can be customized to your liking. They have become a weekly thing in my household. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
THE SIMPLEST BAGEL
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cp self rising flour (I use King Arthur’s)
- 1 cp plain non fat yogurt
- 1 egg
- topping of your choice (everything but the bagel seasoning, sea salt, sesame seed, cinnamon sugar, poppyseed etc.)
TOOLS
- parchment paper
- baking sheet
- pastry brush
- fork & spoon
- small dish
- mixing bowl
- 1 cp measuring cup
DIRECTIONS
Preheat your oven to 375 F & prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Take a small dish, crack the egg & whisk it with a fork until you have an egg wash. Set aside.
In a medium bowl, combine the flour & yogurt. Stir until dough forms.
Before you grab the dough, have a clean working area & sprinkle self rising flour over the area so the mixture doesn’t stick. This mixture is very sticky so, typically, I coat my hands with flour before working with the dough- makes for an easier time!
Form the dough into a large ball & divide into 4 sections. Take one at a time & form a smaller ball. Poke your finger into the center of it to start creating a “bagel shape”. Work with it until you have achieved your desired shape. Lay on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat until you have 4 bagels.
Brush your egg wash over the top of the bagels & then top each bagel with the seasoning of your choice.
Place bagels in the oven for 20 minutes. Half way through, rotate the pan. When the 20 minutes is up, leave the bagels in the oven & turn your broiler on high for 1-2 minutes. Keep an eye on them once the broiler is on, it works quick!
When the bagels are slightly browned on top, take them out. Let them cool for about 10-15 minutes.
Cut in half, serve with butter or cream cheese & enjoy!
TIPS
- these bagels are good for 2-3 days after making.
- if you like your bagel to have a little crunch, pop it in the toaster!
- you could serve with jelly or jam.
- you could make a breakfast sandwich by adding an egg, bacon & cheese.
