THE WOODEN WALL

We’ll call this DIY project “THE WOODEN WALL.”

This is one of our many “quarantine projects” that we’ve done in the last few months. Jeffrey is actually the one who had the idea to build this. He was inspired by our wedding venue & a local brewery we visit often. Wood projects have been our thing lately. We’re super into all the boho vibes. So we took a little bit from each place & came up with this! We love it & think it adds just so much to our kitchen.

Because Jeffrey is usually the ‘brains’ behind our projects, he figured out all the measurements & things while I drew out the layout of how the wood would lay & what color each piece of wood would be. I’m totally a visual person, so when it comes to projects, I tell Jeffrey things I like & he tells me if it’ll work or not & we go from there; we’re quite the duo!

So after Jeffrey cut & prepped all the wood for me, I began staining it. We used three different shades of danish oil, so the wall had nice color variation. Once I finished applying the oil to the pieces of wood, we laid each piece of wood out & began putting it together (kinda like a puzzle). It was not the easiest thing, but it came together nicely.

The wall was done in two pieces. First, because we have three levels in our townhouse, & our main level being on the second floor, it made it much easier getting it up the stairs. Second, because we rent, we didn’t want anything too permanent. Once all the wood was laid out how it was going to be put together, Jeffrey nailed three pieces of wood panels to the back to secure it. We put that first side up & repeated the same process for the second side. He ended up securing it all over by mounting a wood panel to the wall studs & from there, mounting the wood wall to that wood panel (hope that makes sense).

To add to “THE WOODEN WALL”, we thought it would be a nice touch to add some string lights (that we had from out wedding) & hang them in front of the wall.

We love how this project turned out!

Here is a quick video of how it went:
