Hair

1 BRAID 2 WAYS

This hairstyle is perfect for all type of hair – long & short, straight & curly.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • comb (or rat tail comb)
  • bobbypins
  • texture spray (I use VERB)

For the first look, you will begin with styling your hair how you’ll want it overall (straight, wavy or curly). Then you will part your hair where you want it to be and begin dutch braiding. You could also do a french braid, but if you want a fuller & thicker braid, I would recommend a dutch braid.

Dutch braid: Grab a section of hair and split it into 3 smaller sections. Instead of crossing the sections over one another (like you would for a french braid), you will cross the sections under each other.

Braid the hair until you get to about an inch or two past your ear. Where the braid ends, hold it with your fingers, take your other hand & begin lightly tugging on the braid from the bottom & work your way up to the top. This will create the fuller & thicker looking braid. Once you have your desired braid, secure it with one bobbypin & then using another bobbypin, slide it over the previous bobbypin (creating an X with both bobbypins). Style your hair so it covers the bobbypins, or if you like the look of the bobbypins showing, leave it how it is!

For the second look, you will repeat the steps you did in the first look but instead of securing the braid to your head, you will secure the braid off your head with either a bobbypin or a rubber band. You will then take your texture spray, grab 1/2 inch sections of you hair & at the crown of your head begin spraying it lightly at the roots of each section (this will help hold the tease) Next, you will start teasing it. I start teasing where I want my volume to begin and work my way down. Smooth the tease out lightly (so it doesn’t look like a birds nest) & secure it with bobbypins using the same X technique. Now that you have it as voluminous as you want, remove the bobbypin (or rubber band) you have securing the braid and lay the braid on top of the bobbypins you have holding the teased part (so they’re hidden) & secure the braid with two more bobbypins. Once it’s looking how you want it, spray it with some light hairspray (or heavy hold if your hair doesn’t hold well) and viola!
