PUMPKIN FROSTED FALL SUGAR COOKIES
These Pumpkin Frosted Fall Sugar Cookies are the perfect cookie for fall. They’re made with fall spices & frosted with a pumpkin frosting. The recipe is simple & allows for you to have some fun decorating them!
I love the fall season. It means warm cookies fresh from the oven. Growing up my mom made her sugar cookies around the holidays. They always bring me back to my childhood.
Sugar cookies are one of the easiest recipes to create. So of course I had to make my own version for the spooky season.
You can also experiment with different shapes and flavors for the holidays. These cookies pair wonderfully with a morning cup of coffee.
The Ingredients Needed For Sugar Cookies
The Sugar Cookies of course have pumpkin in them, it’s the perfect flavor for a fall dessert. There is also pure maple syrup and cinnamon to really bring the fall flavor home.
The icing is where you can really get creative. The recipe is simple enough that you can try different things that your family might prefer. Even without the pumpkin puree, the frosting is delicious.
Tips
For the cinnamon & sugar mix, I usually just eyeball it. Always more sugar than cinnamon.
If you don’t want to use all of the dough, you can refrigerate up to 2 days & bake a fresh batch when you want. Make sure to set the dough out 30min-1hr before using.
You can use any shape cookie cutter you’d like.
After you’ve frosted your cookies, don’t stack them, they will stick together and get messy.
PUMPKIN FROSTED FALL SUGAR COOKIES
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 sticks salt butter at room temperature
- 3/4 cp dark brown sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2/3 cp pure maple syrup
- 1 egg
- 2 1/2 cps all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
Pumpkin Frosting
- 1 stick salted butter at room temperature
- 4 tbsp cream cheese at room temperature
- 2 tbsp pumpkin puree
- 1 cp powdered sugar
- sprinkle of cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 F.In a large mixing bowl, combine the butter, dark brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla & egg. Beat until you have a smooth mixture.Add in the flour, baking soda & salt (a little at a time). Your dough should begin to form. Once you've got your dough, put it on a floured surface & begin working it into a large ball. Divide into two halves - set one half to the side.If your dough feels too wet, add flour to it (a tbsp at a time). Roll it out until it's about 1/4 inch thick. Take a cookie cutter of your choice, I used a pumpkin for Autumn & begin cutting out the cookies. Place each cookie on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. When you have filled the baking sheet, place them in the oven for about 10 minutes. Repeat until you've used all your dough.Take them out of the oven, let sit for 5 minutes. When the 5 minutes is up, transfer to a cooling rack. While the cookies are cooling, go ahead & make your frosting. You''ll start by beating the softened butter & cream cheese until smooth. Add in the pumpkin, powdered sugar & cinnamon. Mix until you have a smooth frosting.Take a cookie & begin frosting. Repeat until you have frosted all the cookies.Sprinkle with a cinnamon & sugar mix.Serve & enjoy!
